Back in January 09 I tried consolidating several mortgages I had with Chase. Little did I know Chase would instead drag me through six months of hell, constantly tossing me around to different loan officers who never knew what was going on with my refinance. I have good credit and income, my property has high value, my loan ratio was great and I've never been late on any of my payments. So what gives, well after hearing on NPR that all the major banks were flat out stalling on refinancing on people around the entire country in an effort to make more money I drew the line... During this time twice a friend referred me to Justin Lopatin at American Street and I should have listened to him the first time because the nightmare stopped as soon as I contacted American Street. I have to admit that, at first, I was reluctant to call American Street, even though they were recommended to me by someone very trustworthy. I had recently worked with another motgage planner, who was a very nice lady and had also been highly recommended. I felt a kind of loyalty to her. I was interested in the idea of a reverse mortgage, but I really didn't understand it very well. I had a small regular mortgage and an equity line of credit on my condo. I thought all of those things would disqualify me from getting a reverse mortgage. Someone I knew recommended that I talk to Bernie Ockrim at American Street. I'm so glad I did! He explained everything to me. First of all, he said condo owners are eligible for reverse mortgages! Then he said that my mortgage and equity line would both be paid off with my new reverse mortgage. He explained that if I had sold my condo to someone so I could buy a new one, my mortgage and equity line would be paid out of the money I received from the new owner. A reverse mortgage acts the same way. So the full payments for them just come out of the money you get from the reverse mortgage. Bernie worked closely with me to make very sure that I understood everything. I found out that even after the mortgage and equity line would be paid off, I would still get a monthly payment. So on top of getting money, I won't have any more monthly mortgage or equity line payments. Added to my Social Security, that made me able to fully retire at age 74! Bernie said I could have taken the money all at once as a new equity line of credit. There are other ways you can take the money from the reverse mortgage, too. But I liked the idea of that monthly payment that let me retire. And the best part is that I still own my condo. If I decide to sell it, I can. I was so happy that my friend told me to call Bernie. I’m writing this letter to make you aware of the caliber of Mortgage Planner you have in Jeremy Storino. Let me begin by saying that when I first approached Jeremy I was simply thinking about purchasing a home. My goal was to learn what I needed to do to get myself ready. I would imagine I am what people in the Mortgage business would consider a tough case. A single father raising two children and having declared bankruptcy due to a costly divorce. However, Steve Bote at American Street Mortgage Company assured me he could help lower my monthly mortgage payment and then I could fulfill a promise and help my daughter buy the new car she wanted.
